Duke’s Folly Wines posted this video on Facebook. In it, a sealed barrel of red wine built up a huge amount of fermentation gas and created a geyser when the clamp was removed.
Duke’s said, “Sometimes, yeast is ready to start the party before we are. Watch this spectacular display of cinematography by Steve Rogstad. I’ve seen (and done) a LOT of things over the years in winery cellars, but this is a new one. I want to emphasize that this was a potentially very dangerous situation that ended without injury or property damage, except for the stainless drum. Don’t try this at home!! Watch out for the 2017 Vin Gris, it’s THE BOMB!!”
