USDA urges producers to respond to the 2022 Census of Ag

· November 30, 2022

The 2022 Census of Agriculture should be hitting farm and rancher mailboxes around the country — many producers have already received them. So, why does that matter? Conducted since 1840, the census is the only source of comprehensive and impartial ag data in the nation.

According to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service, the data received in the census is widely used and highlights changes, trends, and challenges across nearly every aspect of agriculture. It is a key factor in determining farm policy and, hopefully, it helps strengthen rural America’s voice.

“Data equals knowledge, and by responding to the Ag Census, you have an opportunity to see yourself in the data and showcase the significant impact of our farmers and ranchers,” says Kevin Barnes, associate administrator of USDA NASS. “This can influence action and advocacy that benefits producers like yourself.”

Census data helps policymakers and agribusinesses strategically apply resources to feed, clothe, and fuel the nation and the world.

Who needs to participate? Anyone who sold, grew, or raised $1,000 or more of agriculture products in 2022. Responses are due by Feb. 6, 2023.
