Sam Elliott’s powerful and purposeful voice is a national treasure, and the Doritos commercial it’s featured in is creating a buzz ahead of Super Bowl Sunday. In the ad, Elliott slowly recites Lil Nas X’s 2019 smash hit “Old Town Road.” But instead of pop/hip-hop mashup that the radio version of that tune had, Elliott’s monologue takes place in a dusty Western tavern, as the barkeep and other patrons fall silent and look at the mustachioed cowboy with a bit of awe and a bit of confusion.
Dare we call it an instant classic? Yeah. Elliott carries that kind of authority with him. And this is worth the 1-minute watch.
