Pigs could save human lives soon thanks to CRISPR

Need a kidney transplant? You might be able to get one from a pig soon. Using CRISPR genome-editing technology, researchers at Cambridge, Massachusetts-based eGenesis have raised the first litter of piglets, free of PERVs — Active Porcine Endogenous Retrovirus. The fear of transmitting PERVs to humans was one of the main hurdles blocking successful xenotransplantation.
