A New Mexico community came out in full force last week to support a 9-year-old and his prize steer at the Eddy County Fair. His first 4-H project, and one Sammy Fodge had hoped he could complete with his dad, brought in $56,000. It was an emotional moment for the Fodge family as Sammy’s father Paul, an Eddy County Sheriff’s deputy, passed away in June. According to KQRE, most of the proceeds will now go into a college fund, but some funding will be used to purchase animals for next year’s fair.
