Ya know, Farmer Derek made a Deere tractor autonomous years ago

In the wake of John Deere’s much-talked-about announcement at CES 2022 that it has made a fully autonomous and production-ready tractor, Farmer Derek Klingenberg points out that, um, he kinda already did that two years ago.

Deere’s new machine combines its 8R tractor, TruSet-enabled chisel plow, GPS guidance system, and new advanced technologies. Derek also used an R-series tractor, and even set it up to where people all over the world were able to take it for a test drive. He even did a video where he taught his young daughter to drive the machine — from a safe distance, of course.

Derek released a video talking about Deere’s new tractor, which he titled: Stop Copying Me John Deere!! He notes how easy it was for him to make his tractor autonomous, and he did it for about $300.
