Tyson Foods plant worker Jason Wayne Barre was killed at a processing facility in Harmony, North Carolina. According to reports, the 44-year-old was working at River Valley Ingredients, a division of Tyson, when the incident occurred.
On July 29, North Carolina State Highway Patrol said it responded to the 9-1-1 call when Bare was hit by a tractor-trailer rig backing up to the loading dock at the chicken by-product plant. After being struck at little before 7 p.m. by a truck driven by another Tyson worker, Gary Wayne Davidson of Statesville, Bare was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.
According to WHYK, Harmony and Sheffield-Calahaln Fire Departments, Iredell EMS, and the North Iredell Rescue Squad responded to the scene. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration was notified of the incident.
Tyson Foods has released the following statement: “A team member passed away after being struck by a backing vehicle at our Harmony, North Carolina, facility late Friday evening. We’re working with local authorities to investigate what happened and appreciate the quick response and support of local emergency responders. Our thoughts and prayers are with the team member’s family, friends, and co-workers; our Chaplains and support personnel have been made available to all who were affected by his loss.”
Tyson employs over 120,000 employees in the United States. In 2021, the company had a recordable incidence rate of 2.73 percent.
