National FFA is searching for 2024 convention interns

Published:

Just take the internships — as many as you can, in as many areas as you can. You can’t afford to miss out on the connections, experiences, insights, and opportunities that an intern provides. Even if they’re not paid, the value of experience and relationships you’ll gain exceeds anything monetary remuneration can offer.

Whenever we discuss the future of agriculture, groups such as the National FFA Organization are at the center of the conversation. FFA members learn about the agriculture industry with the support of leaders, educators, industry professionals, and more while preparing for future careers. So, it makes sense that when we discuss opportunities, internships with this organization come up.

Meanwhile, the National FFA Convention is the jewel of the FFA year. Held in Indianapolis each fall, the convention is known for flooding the city with a sea of tens of thousands of blue corduroy jackets. FFA members from all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands attend sessions at the Lucas Oil Stadium and other activities at the Indiana Convention Center.

This year, the National FFA Organization is seeking college students or recent college graduates to assist as multimedia journalists and newsroom journalist interns for the National FFA Convention, which runs from Oct 23 to 26, 2024 in Indianapolis.

Members will come to compete, find personal and career inspiration, meet fellow members from across the country, and grow as leaders. It’s multimedia journalists and newsroom journalist interns’ jobs to capture the accomplishments and fun.

Journalists for the convention will be expected to write, produce, and edit one to two feature stories each day, formatted for TV broadcast, online publication, and social media content. While some of the stories are assigned, interns will network throughout the convention to scop out stories important to members’ convention experiences and lives.

The days will be long, but the convention is an opportunity to have your work published through live streams that reach over 950,000 members, advisors, family, media partners, and more.

Interns are expected to arrive in Indianapolis on Monday, Oct. 21, and work a minimum eight-hour shift daily from Tuesday, Oct. 22 through Saturday, Oct. 26. National FFA will cover travel expenses, including airfare and hotel, provide all meals Monday upon arrival through Saturday, and offer a $400 project stipend.

FFA Newsroom Multimedia Journalist Interns are expected to be able to conceptualize, write, produce, shoot, and edit one feature story per day on their own, formatted for TV and radio broadcast, online publication, and social media content. Audio/video equipment and guidance from an expert team of professionals will be available to assist you, but as a multimedia journalist, you will be expected to capture your video footage and edit it in Adobe Premiere to produce your final segment.

The application deadline for both the newsroom and multimedia journalists is Aug. 30, 2024. However, applicants will be reviewed and interviewed on a rolling basis, and the positions may be filled before Aug. 30.
