A Smithfield, Rhode Island, farm has shut down its haunted hayride after one of its teenage actors was injured over the weekend.
According to reports, this is the second accident at Seven Cedars Farm in the past few years. However, this time, 14-year-old Giada Rose Lanzieri is said to be in critical condition following this most recent incident.
The farm’s hay ride is supposed to wind through 21 acres of wooded trails, with twists, turns, and spooky actors along the way. However, the real horror of the ride came when Lanzieri was struck by the hay ride’s tractor hauling about 30 people in a trailer at around 8 p.m. Saturday, according to Smithfield Fire officials.
Fortunately, the tractor’s operator realized something was amiss and was able to lift the trailer off of the victim with the help of other hay riders.
“The individual that was struck was an employee there. She was an actor there, and she got caught up underneath the trailer and got dragged with the rear wheels,” Steven Quattrini, the Deputy Fire Chief in Smithfield, told 10WJAR.
The victim was taken to Hasbro Children’s Hospital with broken bones and other internal injuries.
The farm has shut down its operation since the incident, volunteering to refund any tickets.
Seven Cedars Farm also shared the news of the incident on their website, writing, “First of all, we are absolutely devastated by this incident and we want to send our thoughts and prayers to the actor and her family involved. We are completely heartbroken over this, and we hope she has a speedy recovery!”
Seven Cedars Farm is a family-run business that grows seasonal plants and holds both a haunted hayride and a Christmas caroling hay rides.
