Merck names $20K future bovine vet scholarship recipients

Merck Animal Health has announced that $20,000 in scholarships will be awarded to two future bovine veterinarians. This award was made in partnership with the Academy of Veterinary Consultants Foundation, the charitable arm of AVC, which provides continuing education for veterinarians in the beef cattle industry.

The scholarships were presented at AVC’s conference in Denver.

The 2024 recipients, each receiving $10,000, are:

  • Dylan Bostick, a fourth-year veterinary student at Texas Tech University School of Veterinary Medicine
  • Cody Minyard, a fourth-year veterinary student at Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine

“Merck Animal Health is proud to support these veterinary students who are committed to careers in veterinary medicine,” said Justin Welsh, D.V.M., executive director of livestock technical services at Merck Animal Health. “The industry needs bright minds like theirs to bring dedication and innovation to animal care. These students reflect our commitment to cattle care and our mission to advance the Science of Healthier Animals.”

Bob Larson, D.V.M., executive director of AVC, expressed gratitude for Merck’s partnership, stating, “These exceptional students will soon be leaders in the veterinary profession, providing critical support to the North American cattle industry. They possess the skills and dedication necessary for a promising future in the beef industry.”

The AVC Foundation supports veterinary medicine through charitable, scientific, and educational initiatives, aiming to enhance beef cattle health, well-being, productivity, and sustainability.
