2025 junior livestock auction sets new sales records at NWSS

A packed house filled the auction arena for the 2025 Auction of Junior Livestock Champions, hosted by BOK Financial. The event showcased the bright future of the livestock industry, with this year’s Grand and Reserve Champions stealing the spotlight.

The energy in the room was electric as bidding for the 2025 Grand Champion Steer reached a record-breaking $210,000, surpassing the previous $200,000 record set in 2023. Five of the top eight animals shattered records, including the Reserve Grand Champion Steer, which sold for $125,000, topping its previous high of $100,000.

Madilyn Norvell from Oklahoma exhibited the Grand Champion Steer, Thunder, which was purchased by Hutchison Western for $210,000 in honor of Buck Hutchison, a founding supporter of the Junior Livestock Auction. Fourteen-year-old Madilyn, inspired by her champion exhibitor parents, started showing livestock at five and dreams of becoming an agricultural lobbyist after attending Oklahoma State University.

The Reserve Grand Champion Steer, Mogcky, was shown by 14-year-old Rhylee Rodgers of Iowa and sold for $125,000 to Transwest Trucks Inc. Rhylee, a seasoned exhibitor, plans to study at Oklahoma State and stay connected to the livestock world.

The auction raised $637,000 for the top eight animals, breaking the 2023 record of $585,000. Proceeds directly support junior exhibitors and their educational goals, while also contributing to the National Western Scholarship Trust, which provides scholarships for agriculture and rural medicine students in Colorado and Wyoming.

Other highlights included Alice Hawk’s Grand Champion Hog selling for $85,000, Rylee Anderson’s Reserve Champion Hog closing at $55,000, and Clay Randall’s Grand Champion Lamb fetching $52,500. Each young exhibitor shared their passion for livestock and their future aspirations, proving this event is about more than just record-breaking sales — it’s about investing in the next generation of agriculture.
