When it comes to creativity and agriculture, hay bale trails feature some of the country’s best fall and Halloween displays. Some of the displays are held to represent businesses, organizations, causes, and groups, while others simply serve to showcase an individual’s creativity.
In honor of fall, the Christian County 4-H in Kentucky held its fourth annual Bale Trail. Voting ended last week with the winners featuring “Moo-ving Into Recovery,” “In Case you Didn’t Know, Nothing Runs Like A Deere,” “H&R Agri-Power,” “Leo the Lion Roars into Fall,” and “Fly-Nancing Dreams.” You can view all of the entrants on their Facebook page.
Christian County 4-H’s bale display didn’t make the contest, because they were hosting the event, but “Hooked on 4-H” is definitely a bale display worth showing off.
In Kansas, HayFest is an annual festival held in Yates Center. The contest’s hay bales are displayed throughout Woodson County, with the winners announced on Sunday.
Deleware County 4-H in Iowa also held a 4-H Week Bale Decorating Contest, promoting 4-H in their community. The winners were announced earlier this month. Winning the Best Bale Award was the Prairie Clovers 4-H Club, and the People’s Choice Award winners were the Hoptown Hurricanes 4-H Club.
Nelson County Cooperative Extension in Kentucky is also in on the bale trail action, hosting its own 4-H Bale Trail this fall. Sponsored by Bardstown, the 12 displays along the bale trail take viewers on a nearly two-hour trek to enjoy the work of 4-H clubs and businesses in the county.
In Livingston County, Kentucky, the county’s second annual bale trail has featured 17 bale displays featuring everything from 4-H to pets, Ball jars, minions, and more. A $20 registration fee for each entry went to support the 4-H Animal Sciences Club. In-person and distance viewers can vote online for their favorite bales on the trail. Winners will be announced on Oct. 28 at the second annual Bale Blast.
After a tornado hit River Valley, Arkansas, in June, the town has bounced back, holding the 2023 River Valley AgCredit Bale Trail. With over 80 entries, there’s a little something for everyone, with town businesses getting in on the decorating action. Todd County’s Chamber of Commerce hosted its 10th annual Bale Trail this month in Allegre, Kentucky. Featuring a myriad of bale displays from out-of-this-world “Straw Trek” displays to “Harvest Goddess” bales, there are displays for every interest, young and old.
