The Anton FFA community in Texas is reeling after 10 show goats were stolen from their ag barn. The theft occurred between 7:30 p.m. Monday and 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, with fences deliberately cut. Only one goat was left behind. This incident follows an earlier tragedy when a pack of dogs killed several goats last fall.
FFA students had been preparing these animals for upcoming events, including the Hockley County Fair and major shows in San Angelo and San Antonio. The loss is a significant setback for the hardworking students who had poured their time and effort into caring for and training the goats.
The community has been quick to respond. The Hockley County Sheriff’s Department and local sale barns have been notified, and Anton FFA, along with concerned locals, is urging the public to be on the lookout for the missing goats. Photos of the stolen animals have been shared widely on social media to aid identification.
Juanita Hicks, a supporter of the FFA, emphasized the need for vigilance and community support in a Facebook post stating, “If our community is looking and talking, it will increase our chances of locating them.”
Local broadcaster Pete Christy and others have shared the story to amplify awareness.
This incident has prompted concern and calls for accountability. Johnny Taylor, a former FFA participant from Anton, posted an emotional plea, condemning the act as cruel and senseless, urging the community to stand united against such actions.
“As someone who grew up in Anton and participated in FFA, this hits especially close to home,” wrote Taylor. “This act of cruelty goes against everything we value and represents a profound disrespect for the spirit of agriculture and community.”
Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Anton FFA or local authorities immediately. The community remains hopeful that their goats will be recovered and justice will be served.
