It takes a highly motivated individual to become a successful national FFA officer — an opportunity afforded to only six FFA members every year.
In May, State FFA staff initiated the national officer candidate application process. Each state can declare one candidate for the national FFA office annually — officer candidates must be active FFA members, hold the American FFA degree at the time of election, and retain active membership through their term of office.
The primary responsibility of a national officer is to serve the organization in local, state, national, and international activities in a way that will inform, motivate, and inspire FFA members, advisors, state staff, teachers, and others to achieve the mission, strategies and core goals of the organization.
Vying for the six officer positions this year are 35 FFA members who will compete until the election at the 96th National FFA Convention and Expo in November.
During the National FFA Convention and Expo, the National FFA officers will be selected by a nominating committee composed of nine FFA members.

Becoming a national officer requires members to learn about their passions and gain a better understanding of what life as a national officer is like,” writes the National FFA Organization. “The life of a national officer is nonstop hard work and never-ending commitments, but it is a life-changing experience — one they will cherish forever.”
