During the holiday season, it is always nice to take time to appreciate the things you are thankful for — even during a global pandemic. While finding a new normal during the pandemic, FFA members did not let this year’s challenges stop them from doing so much good. When things got tough, FFA members simply remembered a few of their “favorite things.”
While this year has brought plenty of lows, it has also brought its own unique highs — everything from the first-ever virtual convention to students helping those in their community, FFA has once again shown its resilience in any given situation. To help get through those tough times, I like to sing myself a little song — with a few tweaks. I’m sure that you all are familiar with the tune of the classic “My Favorite Things”:
FFA Edition: My Favorite Things
Raindrops on corn crops and whiskers on horses
Feeding the livestock and all my ag courses
Big round hay bales tied up with strings,
These are a few of my favorite things.
Cleaning up town and working with others
Helping the homeless and cooking with mothers
Providing a service and the joy that it brings
These are a few of my favorite things.
Girls in white blouses with no runs in their hoses
Boys in their jackets zipped up to their noses
Convention center full as everyone sings
These are a few of my favorite things.
When the cow kicks
When the fence stings
When I’m feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don’t feel so bad.
The original song, “My Favorite Things,” has long been a favorite, especially during the holiday season. With this FFA spin on the classic, it helps to remind members and advisors that you only need to think of happy things during a rough time. With a can-do attitude, the National FFA Organization has stayed focused on providing opportunities for its members and its community during this unusual year.
