Dairy video advocates for bringing full-fat milk back into schools
The International Dairy Foods Association, which represents the nation’s dairy manufacturing and marketing industries and their suppliers in Washington, D.C., and the National Milk Producers Federation have created a video appealing directly to President Donald Trump and Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue to bring full-fat milk back into schools.
Current guidelines, which went from 2015-2020, recommend serving fat-free or low-fat dairy, including milk, cheese, yogurt, and/or fortified soy beverages. But dairy farmers and cited research points to benefits of full-fat milk, including being linked to lower cardiovascular disease deaths.
As farmers featured in the video note, this isn’t about who you’re voting for in the 2020 presidential race — these guidelines need to be updated by the end of the 2020 calendar year, so it will still fall within Trump’s term, no matter the election results.
