Farmers at the National Farm Machinery Show were eager to see John Deere’s newly unveiled Connect Mobile App, which became available Wednesday on Apple iPads.
The goal of the new app, which completely replaces its earlier SeedStar Mobile counterpart app, is to help growers monitor, adjust, and learn from the performance of their planter or sprayer while it moves through the field.
The app is currently available only for planting, but a spring application will be available in the coming months, and a harvest one further into the year. It marks an opportunity for Deere to bring in more applications under the umbrella of one app, as well as to share the operation data. In essence, it creates a practical and highly flexible app for farmers.
“It’s managing the job at a micro level to make macro improvements,” says John Mishler, production and precision ag marketing manager for John Deere.
From previous versions, the menu moves from the top of the screen to the right-hand side, in a manner to display ground speed, actual rates, rate deviation, and pressure, among other data.
“This information can help growers better understand what might have caused what they’re seeing in the field,” Mishler explains.
Connect Mobile provides more options for operators to view data in the cab, including the John Deere Gen 4 CommandCenter that shows performance data averaged across the field, the boom, or the planter section.
The app is available for free.
