A Michigan farmer found himself in a dangerous — and potentially deadly — situation after became trapped in his tractor after he struck a power pole.
While discing a field, the farmer hit the pole, and the power lines fell on top of his farming equipment. The farmer followed farm safety protocols by staying inside of the tractor (a life-saving decision) and immediately called 911.
According to MLive, the incident occurred around 8:30 a.m. Friday, on a farm in Tallmadge Township of Ottawa County. The man was not injured and remained in his tractor until crews could shut off the power so he could safely exit the tractor.
In addition to trapping the farmer in his tractor, the downed power lines also caused a fire at a hunting shed on the property. Thankfully, the shed burned itself out but was still smoking while fire crews were on scene.
We are grateful this story had a happy ending for the farmer and his family. This is the reason farm safety is of upmost importance to a farmer and their family. The hard work from the fire crew and the energy crew allowed the farmer to exit the tractor unharmed.
