The NFL’s “My Cause My Cleats” initiative highlights the charitable passions of its players, with hundreds of athletes donning custom-designed cleats to bring attention to causes close to their hearts.
This year, over 1 million FFA members will have their eyes on Atlanta Falcons outside linebacker Lorenzo Carter, who has chosen to support the National FFA Organization, emphasizing the importance of agricultural education and leadership development for youth.
Carter, who’s family owns Lucky Charm Family Farm, a small 40-acre operation in Georgia that raises sheep, chickens, cattle, and an assortment of crops, enjoys working on the farm when football isn’t front and center.
“To be able to say that I know where my food comes from, and my kids will know where their food comes from. My family is working and we’re living that healthy lifestyle out here, living off the land,” Carter told Channel 2 sports director Zach Klein.
Since its launch in 2016, “My Cause My Cleats” has given NFL players a platform to raise awareness for diverse causes. From youth wellness and mental health to cancer research and social justice initiatives, the campaign allows players to showcase their commitments to creating meaningful change. Players’ custom cleats not only serve as a visual representation of their chosen causes but are also auctioned to raise funds for the associated charities, with 100 percent of proceeds donated.
“Our players are passionate supporters of many charitable causes and serve as changemakers in their communities,” said NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. “We are excited to build upon last year’s success and work with our players to expand this unique platform that enables them to raise awareness for causes they support.”
Fans have the opportunity to support these causes by bidding on game-issued player cleats at NFL Auction, with all proceeds going directly to the players’ selected charities. The initiative combines creativity, community engagement, and philanthropy, providing an avenue for players and fans alike to make a difference.
