Richardson Adventure Farm’s corn maze draws mixed reactions with John Deere design

Published:

Many farms have corn mazes, but not many can live up to the size and detail of the Richardson Adventure Farm Corn Maze. With its nine to 10 miles of trails winding through 28 acres of live corn, this year’s maze turns back time to pay tribute to John Deere.

The maze in Spring Grove, Illinois, is actually created out of four smaller mazes. Each one has its dedicated in-and-out path. There are multiple checkpoints throughout the maze and three bridges that will help you find your bearings while looking at the map.

A perimeter path surrounds the entire maze, and there are no dead ends in this maze. And it is entirely up to you whether to do one maze or all four. All the fun starts on September 7!

“Finding the checkpoints is the challenge and the way to solve the maze,” maze organizers said, “but if you have had enough and need to get out and get a fresh donut or a cup of hot chocolate for added strength and stamina, you can find your way out in just minutes.”

“Our 2024 Adventure Maze is a John Deere masterpiece!” the farm wrote beside a video reveal on Facebook. “Twist and turn through John Deere-themed trails — perfect for farm fans of all ages.”

“Fun Fact: Did you know the first John Deere plow was made in 1837?” the message continued. “Talk about farming roots!”

Spring Grove is just outside of Chicago and about 160 miles from Moline, Illinois, where Deere is headquartered. Richardson’s maze includes the likeness of John Deere’s eponymous founder. It also touts the iconic slogan, “Nothing Runs Like a Deere.”

After catching word of the maze, Deere posted the maze to social media, saying, “A corn maze just for us? Aw shucks.”

Not everyone is impressed with Richardson’s choice of a maze. Based on the company’s recent layoffs and right-to-repair issues, some social media commentators have voiced their discontent with the maze design.

“Its a shame for you to honor this company after they transfer jobs to Mexico,” one commenter said.

“The center looks like where you have put all the employees heads recently. The tractors appear to be headed south to Mexico too. Perfectly representative of what you have done lately,” another added.
