More than 1M layers perish in Indiana fire

More than 1 million layers died Monday night after a fire broke out at an egg-producing facility near North Manchester, Indiana. According to WPTA, the fire started in a barn at Hi-Grade Egg Producers around 10:30 p.m., but escalated when the wind spread the fire to four other barns on the property.

Crews from 22 fire departments battled the fire for nearly seven hours before getting it out. The fire is still under investigation.

Hi-Grade Egg Producers is home to 2.7 million chickens.
