An unnamed Seaboard Feed Mill employee was killed earlier this month in what appears to be a grain car accident at the mill in Kansas. Authorities are still investigating the events that led to the worker’s death, although no foul play is suspected.
The Wichita County Sheriff’s Department confirmed the news of this unfortunate incident to AGDAILY.
At about 2:50 a.m. Aug. 11, first responders received a call from crews at the Kansas feed mill reporting someone trapped in grain inside a train car. After finding a man trapped inside the grain car, it took 30 minutes for responders to free the individual, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Seaboard Foods operates the feed mill in Leoti, Kansas, which specializes in mixing feed rations for pigs on nearby Seaboard Food Farms.
Agriculture and forestry are among the most hazardous industries in the United States. Grain bin incidences can quickly become dangerous — even in a grain car, an adult can sink waist-deep and find themselves quickly entrapped.
